Crypto Faith

I got involved with Cryptocurrency In Jan 2016 after a friend talked about it. Even though he shared his knowledge with a group of us, I was the only one out of 14 people that took his advice and invested at that time. Since then it has obviously blown up in the media and a lot more people have become aware of what cryptocurrency actually and have been investing. As I was driving this morning I started thinking of the ups and down of investing in something so volatile and it reminded me of being a Christian.

Unbelief

When cryptocurrency was presented a lot of people did not get involved because they did not believe in it. It was something new and unproven and seemed like a waste of money and time, people have similar thoughts when it comes to believing in God.

When I speak to people about my faith, even though it has been around for 2000+ years I get a lot of responses like;

  • How can you believe in something that you cannot see?
  • The existence of God cannot be proven by science
  • I would rather spend my time doing things which I enjoy, rather than just sitting in a building on a Sunday.

When I decided to invest I did not have all the answers and neither did my friend however I was willing to take a chance. I would rather invest and be proven wrong, than sit on the periphery looking at what others were doing.

Jamie Dimon who is the CEO of J.P. Morgan Chase, one of the biggest banks in the world released an apology recently, because in September 2017, Dimon called bitcoin a fraud.

“I regret making” that comment, he said in an interview with Fox Business. Along with his earlier bitcoin is a “fraud” statement the executive also blasted digital currency investors last year.

“If you’re stupid enough to buy it, you’ll pay the price for it one day,” he said in response to a moderator question at an Institute of International Finance conference in October.

HODL

Another parallel I drew from cryptocurrency was HODL. The the term HODL was used in 2013 by a drunk user on Bitcoin forum who wanted to convey the fact that he was holding his Bitcoin despite the serious fall that had just happened. Since then, this misspelt term became very popular in the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency world. Whenever a person says in a conversation that he/she is ‘hodling’ or suggests to ‘hodl’, it means that they believe their coin will be profitable one day, if not today. There are days and week when your portfolio is green and at other times it’s red, which can give you a heart attack because unlike normal stocks and shares when it drops it’s like 30–40% in a day. However to win in the long run you have to learn how to HODL.

As a christian you go through periods were everything is going great and you feel like you have the Midas touch, life is brilliant. Your faith has been rewarded and you are in a good place ‘mountain top’ moments but you also go through some “valleys” too. There may be times when everything that can go wrong is going wrong and all you can do is call out to God, hold on and ride the storm.

“But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind” — James 1:6

IT WILL ALL BE WORTH IT

Just like the payback is sweet for investment returns on cryptocurrency, which puts a permanent smile on your face on good days. I believe my faith will be rewarded with an eternal smile on my face.

LIVE YOUR TRUTH

I spoke to a number of people about cryptocurrency and some listened at that time, some did later and some just ignored me and that is okay. I don’t get mad or annoyed and with my faith its the same. I just live my life and my truth based on what I believe not imposing myself on anyone and I hope that through how I live they can see something which sparks a curiosity in them.
